2nd Annual EMS Fun Run scheduled for Saturday in Broken Bow

The 2nd Annual Broken Bow EMS Fun Run is back again this year, taking place this Saturday (October 5) in Broken Bow. The event, titled “Run For Your Life”, raises funds for  Broken Bow Volunteer EMS.

Kelvin Kreitman spoke with KCNI/KBBN and about the event, explaining that the $30 registration helps with costs associated with a volunteer organization that others might not have.

“There’s a lot of stuff that we need that, you know, may not be budgeted for, so this money all goes to help us be better at what we do. EMS is a little bit different animal because you have a license given to you by the state and in order to hold that license you have to do training. So we have to go places for that training, so there’s costs involved in that to go and keep our licenses up. Every two years you have to have the hours that you need or you won’t keep your license,” Kreitman explained.

Online registration has been open since September 4, closing on Wednesday of this week. Those who were unable to register online ahead of time can register on the day of the race, but just can’t be guaranteed a shirt. Registration and packet pickup start at 9 AM with the race following an hour later.

Saturday’s event will include a landing of the LifeNet helicopter near the start and finish location, Kinkaider Brewing Company’s Broken Bow location. Those running or walking have an opportunity to win big prizes, and those who work up an appetite are invited to stay for food and drink specials at Kinkaider from 11 to 2.

Kreitman said he’s extremely proud of the work that Broken Bow EMS does, and the dedication of its volunteers.

“So seven to ten minutes is the national average and we’re under that national average now as a volunteer squad. We’ve added enough people that we can do this, so we’ve got like six paramedics now. We’ve got three advanced EMTs with a bridge course that’s going on with the possibility to add a few more. We’ve had, I want to say, six or seven brand new EMTs over the last, let’s say, year and a half. So we have a pretty robust squad and people are passionate, they love what they’re doing and again it’s volunteer,” Kreitman said.
