Hunters For Youth will host a Trot Line Event at Pressey Park starting at noon on July 25 and running until noon on July 26.
This overnight event is put on to teach kids and families how to use a trot line. Their goal is to provide youth with opportunities to learn new outdoor skills, promote family bonding, and teach them about hunting and conservation. No experience is needed to participate and those that can’t stay overnight are welcome to join in the evening or the next morning.
During this event, participants will learn how to catch their own bait, set trot lines in the river with proper technique, check lines throughout the evening and morning, and camp and connect with others.
Nicole Anderson from Hunters For Youth spoke with KCNI/KBBN and explained that this event is a great opportunity.
“It’ll be a wonderful opportunity for kids to get out and learn the very, very long history and connect with our ancestors,” stated Anderson.
The event is free, with supper and breakfast provided. Those 16 years old and older must have a valid fishing license, and all Nebraska Game & Parks regulations will be followed. Parents and guardians must be present throughout the event. Hunters For Youth encourages participants to bring bug spray, sunscreen, drinks and snacks, as well as camping equipment.
