The NSAA boys state basketball championships continued on Friday with semifinals in all classes.
In Class C1, undefeated and top seed Ogallala was upset by #4 seed Douglas County West. DC West held Ogallala to nearly 40 points below their season average winning 43-39 to advance to the championship game. One of the biggest differences in the game was the three point line where Ogallala finished 1 of 18 and DC West was 8 of 19. DC West advances to the C1 championship game where they will face #2 seed Ashland-Greenwood who pulled away from Auburn in the second half to win 67-52.
In Class D2, top seed Elgin Public Pope John advanced to the championship game with a 44-33 win over Guardian Angels Central Catholic. EPPJ led by just one after three quarters but outscored GACC 21-11 in the final eight minutes to secure the win. Elgin will face Archangels Catholic of Humphrey for the state title. Archangels knocked off defending state champion St. Mary’s of O’Neill to advance. The game was tied after three quarters but Archangels outscored St. Mary’s 20-15 in the fourth quarter to advance with a 57-52 win.
In Class C2, Norfolk Catholic used a 13-2 run and held top seed Yutan scoreless for the final 2:54 of the game to advance to the championship game. On the other side of the bracket, Bergan Catholic advanced to the championship with a 58-53 win over Freeman.
In Class A, Lincoln Southwest outscored top seed Omaha Westside 19-9 in the fourth quarter to come back and win 66-63 to advance to the championship game where they will face Papillion La-Vista South who edged Bellevue West 64-61 to advance.
In class D1, top seed Howells-Dodge cruised into the championship game with a 60-36 win over Elm Creek. On the other side of the bracket, McCool Junction advanced to the championship game with a 50-49 win over Lutheran High Northeast.
In Class B, it will be Elkhorn North vs Scottsbluff for the state title. Elkhorn North knocked off Omaha Skutt, in overtime, 59-57 and Scottsbluff edged Norris 64-60.
Championship games in all classes will take place Saturday at Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln. Third place consolation games for classes C1, C2, D1, and D2 will take place Saturday at Lincoln Northeast High School.
