Broken Bow claimed the boys team title Thursday at the Howard Schumann Track and Field Invitational hosted by Grand Island Central Catholic high school. Broken Bow won the boys team championship with 109.5 points followed by Kearney Catholic and Minden in second place with 95 points each. Broken Bow’s Max Denson was a double gold medalist in the boys throwing events. Denson won the shot put with an effort of 51′ 9.25″ and won the discus with a winning effort of 148′ 10″. Other highlights for the Indians in the field events included Coy Wardyn winning the boys pole vault clearing 13′ 4″ to win the event. On the track, Noah Osmond was a double gold medal winner. Osmond won the boys 3200 in a winning time of 10:37.20 and won the boys mile in a time of 5:00.65. Other highlights for the Broken Bow boys on the track included Zane Eggleston winning the 300 meter hurdles in a time of 42.65 seconds. Other top three finishes for the Broken Bow boys team included second place finishes in both the 4×800 and 4×400 meter relay. Tyson Neely placed 3rd in the 400.
The Broken Bow girls finished 5th in the final girls team standings. Minden was the girls team champion. Some of the highlights for the Broken Bow girls team included placing two in the top three of the 3200 meter run. Jaycee Staples was runner up followed by MaKinley Tobey in third. Charlee Myers was runner up in the girls pole vault. Other top three finishes for the Lady Indians included Halle Quinn 3rd in the 800. Broken Bow finished runner up in the 4×800 meter relay and was 3rd in the 4×400.
Arcadia/Loup City was also among the teams that competed on Thursday. Once again, Jessica Stieb of ALC dominated the girls throwing events winning the shot put with an effort of 43′ 6″ and winning the discus in an effort of 123′ 5″. Other highlights for the Rebels included Tatum Kapustka winning the girls triple jump with a winning effort of 33′ 3.5″. Other top three finishes for Arcadia/Loup City included Hayden Griffith runner up in the boys high jump and Sami Augustyn finished third in the girls 100 meter dash.
