The Broken Bow girls basketball team claimed their third district championship in the last four years by outlasting Battle Creek, in overtime, 53-49 to win the C1-6 district title.  Broken Bow built an eleven point lead late in the 2nd quarter but Battle Creek went on a 6-0 run to end the quarter and pulled to within 23-18 at halftime and the game was tight the rest of the way.  Battle Creek took their first lead with under 4 minutes left to play and led by as many as three but Broken Bow fought back to tie the game at 44-44 to force overtime.  In overtime, MaKinley Tobey hit a three to put Broken Bow on the board first and the Lady Indians would outscore Battle Creek 9-5 in the overtime period to win 53-49.  Tobey led all scorers with 17 points.  Halle McCaslin also scored in double figures for the Lady Indians with 16 and Gaby Staples had 13.  With the win, Broken Bow advances to the NSAA girls state basketball championship tournament next week in Lincoln.

Sandhills/Thedford claimed the D2-5 district championship with a 54-28 win over High Plains Community.  The Lady Knights led by 11 at the half but held High Plains to just ten points total in the second half to pull away for the win.  S/T was led by Dayle Haake who had a game high 24 points.  Jaylen Dimmitt also finished in double figures with 13.  With the win, Sandhills/Thedford advances to the girls state tournament for the first time since 2018.

SEM fell to St. Mary’s of O’Neill in the D1-5 district final 57-42.  The Lady Mustangs conclude the season at 20-5.  In other area district action, North Bend Central defeated Gothenburg at the C1-7 district final in Aurora 60-55.  The Lady Swedes conclude the season at 19-6.
