The Broken Bow girls basketball team fell just short in their bid to get back to the championship game of the Southwest Conference tournament for the sixth time in the past seven years. The Lady Indians fell to Gothenburg in the SWC semifinals. Broken Bow led 22-11 in the first half but Gothenburg closed the half on a 9-2 run to make the score 24-20 at halftime. The second half was tight throughout. The game was tied 36-36 going into the fourth quarter but Gothenburg was able to make a few more plays down the stretch to secure a 51-45 win. Broken Bow was led by MaKinley Tobey who had a team high 18 points and Halle McCaslin also finished in double figures for Broken Bow with 15 points. Gothenburg was led by Aubrey O’Hare who had a game high 20 points. Broken Bow will face Ainsworth in the girls consolation game Saturday at North Platte Community College. The game is scheduled to tip off at 2:45 and will be broadcast on KCNI 1280 AM / 96.3 FM and kcni1280.com. Gothenburg will face top seed Minden for the SWC girls championship on Saturday. Minden defeated Ainsworth in the other girls semifinal 66-36.
Ogallala and Cozad advanced to the SWC boys championship game. Top seed Ogallala defeated Holdrege 81-48 and Cozad edged Gothenburg 46-41 in the boys semifinals on Friday.
