Central Nebraska’s Sports Source was invited to a letter of intent signing for Anselmo-Merna senior Mackenzie Burnett on Monday. Burnett committed to play volleyball for York University in York, NE. Burnett shared with KCNI/KBBN Sports what led her to choose York University.
“I saw a smaller school which I like and I saw some possibility of growing and I love that about the school.”
Burnett shared what she has learned while being a member of the Anselmo-Merna volleyball program and what being a Coyote has meant to her.
“I’ve learned to always take advantage of your height, to work hard to go places. Being a Coyote has meant a lot to me because it’s such a great school and the support is amazing. At all games you always have a crowd and its the best.”
Mackenzie will be playing for Irick Gardner who is completing is first year as head coach at York University. Gardner was on hand for the letter signing and shared his thoughts on what makes Burnett a good fit for the York University volleyball program.
“We definitely need more middles and she’s versatile having played right side…that’s huge for us. Any player that can bring versatility is huge for us…The other thing is she would be one of our tallest players, probably our tallest. We need some height. Not that you have to be tall to play at that level but it is an advantage when you take advantage of your height so she fits right in.”
