After the end-of-year annual moratorium, area high school sports is back underway. Many area schools are in action Thursday. Here’s a glance at some of the action going on across our listening area.
Broken Bow
The Indians girls and boys basketball teams will start a two day span of competition at the Alliance Holiday Tournament on Thursday. The Broken Bow boys team has posted a 1-3 record so far this young season. The Bow girls head to the tournament with a 3-2 record after games scheduled on the 22nd against Northwest were postponed.
The Indians wrestling team will look to continue their strong start to the season when they travel to compete in the Wood River Tournament.
Ansley/Litchfield
The Spartan girls and boys basketball teams will hop on the bus for competition at Central Valley today. The lady Spartans have their eyes on a .500 record as they face a 2-4 Central Valley squad. In the boys contest, the Spartan boys look to continue an impressive start to the season seeking a sixth win for their 5-2 record.
Twin Loup
The Wolves of Twin Loup will take off from Taylor and Sargent with their eyes set on strong performances at the Elba tournament the next two days. The girls have a 5-2 record heading into the two day stretch and the boys have posted a 1-6 mark.
Arcadia/Loup City
Arcadia/Loup City faithful will hit the road the next two days as the girls and boys teams participate in the Elm Creek tournament. The lady Rebels are 1-6 on the year with two of their losses coming by two or less points. The boys (3-4) will look to even their record at .500 after dropping a couple of losses after a three game win streak earlier in December.
Anselmo-Merna
The Coyotes are basketball tournament bound as well, with two days of play starting up at the Brady tournament on Thursday. Both teams last played earlier last week in the Pleasanton Holiday Tournament.
Sandhills/Thedford
The Knights of Sandhills/Thedford, like many other teams across the state, are also headed to a post-Christmas tournament. They will be traveling down highway two to take part in the Ravenna tournament. The lady Knights are off to a great start this season at 4-2, coming off an 8 point victory over Ansley/Litchfield. The boys sit even at .500, coming off losses against two tough 5-2 opponents in SEM and Ansley/Litchfield.
Gothenburg
The Swede roundballers of Gothenburg will look to take some W’s home when they travel to participate in the two day Hershey tournament on Thursday and Friday. The boys team enters the tournament at 3-3. The girls will look to continue their three game winning streak and add to their 5-1 season at the tournament.
