Wahoo, Bishop Neumann, and Millard South Claim State Football Titles

Three more NSAA state football championships were decided on Tuesday at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln.  Teams battled through the high strong winds on Tuesday

Wahoo repeated as the Class C1 state champion claiming their third state championship overall with a 20-6 win over Sidney who was making its first ever state championship game appearance.  It was a defensive battle with both teams being held under 200 yards of total offense.  One of the differences in the game was turnovers.  Sidney turned the ball over five times and Wahoo had just one turnover.  Wahoo running back Kip Brigham ran for 86 yards and two touchdowns and Wahoo quarterback Jase Kaminski was 6 of 9 passing for 89 yards and one touchdown.

In Class C2, Bishop Neumann claimed its fourth state championship but its first since winning back-to-back titles in 2002 and 2003.  Neumann trailed Grand Island Central Catholic 15-14 in the third quarter but scored 23 unanswered points to pull away for a 37-15 victory.  Bishop Neumann finished with 261 rushing yards led by Jack Van Slyke who rushed for 115 yards and four touchdowns.  Neumann quarterback Beau Fujan ran for 110 yards including a 63-yard touchdown run.

The Class A championship was dominated by Millard South as they shutout Papillion La Vista South 49-0.  It was another big night for Millard South quarterback Jett Thomalla.  The Alabama commit completed 15 of 21 passes for 288 yards and seven touchdowns.  The Millard South defense was equally impressive holding La Vista South to just 31 total yards for the game.
