Norfolk Catholic, Wahoo, and Omaha Skutt Claim NSAA State Football Titles

The final day of the 2024 Nebraska High School football season took place Tuesday as three state champions were crowned at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln.

Norfolk Catholic won its third straight Class C2 title and its 13th state football championship overall winning over Bishop Neumann 27-13.  Norfolk Catholic led 7-6 after three quarters but outscored Bishop Neumann 20-7 in the fourth quarter.  Norfolk Catholic quarterback Callen Marshall was 12 of 18 passing for 153 yards and two touchdowns and Trevin Sukup finished with 142 yards rushing and two touchdowns to lead the Knights.

Wahoo claimed the Class C1 state championship.  It was dominant performance by the Wahoo defense holding Central City to just 184 total yards and forced eight Central City turnovers including seven interceptions on their way to a 47-7 win.  Wahoo’s Kip Brigham led the offensive attack finishing with 133 yards rushing at two touchdowns.

Bennington faced Omaha Skutt for the Class B title.  It was a battle that went down to the wire.  Skutt led 21-6 at halftime but Bennington came back with 20 unanswered points in the second half to take a 26-21 lead.  Skutt then responded with an 80 yard touchdown drive to retake the lead 29-26.  Down three, Bennington took over with 4:23 left in the game inside their own ten yard line and drove down to the Skutt 21 yard line but were held on 4th down with 31 seconds left as Omaha Skutt claimed its sixth state championship.  Skutt quarterback Dylan Vandyke threw for 380 yards and two touchdowns.  Bennington was led by Kyler Lauridsen who finished with 218 yards rushing and four touchdowns.
