Broken Bow Track Preview

The Broken Bow track team is scheduled to begin competition Friday when they travel to participate in the Aurora Invite.  KCNI/KBBN Sports visited this week with head track coach Ryan Wetovick about this year’s team and the start of the season.  The team has benefitted from favorable weather conditions for practice this year.  Wetovick said it was nice to hit the ground running when spring practice started and not have to go outside and scoop snow off the track.

“Yeah, absolutely.  This is the first year since I’ve been on the track staff that we have not had to scoop the track off to have practice because of snow.  We’re ahead in that sense.  When we are able to be outside it allows our sprinters to be able to run farther distances, allow our distance kids to do some stuff, allows our throwers you know our jumpers that we can all get reps in everyday weather permitting so that’s been really good for our kids.”

Because the weather has allowed athletes to compete outside and have more normal practices, coach Wetovick said he likes where his team stands heading into their first varsity meet of the season.

“Yeah I do.  You know we always talk like we know we’re not going to be in tip top shape the first meet of the year but it’s always good to see how conditioned we are, how our starts look.  Our relay handoffs we always expect will be a little shaky in the beginning of the year.  So we always like to see, you know, we’ve been working on it so it’s just kind of nice to see where we’re at on that side of things.”

Broken Bow will make a return trip to Aurora at the end of the season where they will compete in the B-5 district meet on May 7th for the opportunity to qualify for the Class B state meet in Omaha which is scheduled for May 15th and 16th.
