Broken Bow Finishes 4th in Boys Standings and 6th in Girls at Home Track Invite

Broken Bow hosted its annual track and field invitational Friday at Mark Russell Field. Gothenburg won the boys team championship with 74 points and McCook was runner up with 70. McCook won the girls team title with 98 points and Kearney Catholic was runner up with 84 points. Broken Bow finished 4th in the boys team standings with 60 points and was 6th in the girls standings with 51 points.

Each year at the Bow Invite the winners of the 200 meter dash are presented with the special “Kent McCloughan medal”. The Broken Bow alum still holds the Class B 200 meter state and state meet record at 21.4 seconds which he set back in 1961. This year the boys 200 medal went to Broken Bow’s Cruze Safranek who posted a winning time of 23.53 seconds. It was a strong day for Safranek in the sprints as he finished second in the 100 with a time of 11.07 just behind Brett Fraker of McCook whose time was posted at 11.06. The girls 200 medal went to Hazel Haarberg of Kearney Catholic who posted a winning time of 25.83.

Other highlights for the Broken Bow track team included winning the boys 4×100 meter relay. The team of Brice Chaplin, Eli Coble, Coy Wardyn, and Cruze Safranek posted a winning time of 45.15. The Indians claimed the top two spots in the boys shot put. Max Denson won the event going 56′ 10.25″ and Evan Cyboron was 2nd with a top effort of 50′ 10.5″. Denson would place 2nd in the discus with an effort of 156′ 8″. Broken Bow placed first in the girls 4×800 meter relay. The team of Maren Chapin, Gaby Staples, Rylie Wistisen, and Addison Ellis posted a winning time of 11:01. The Lady Indians (Maren Chapin, Ashlyn Schauda, Klarissa Dowdy, Halle Quinn) placed 2nd in the girls 4×400. Halle Quinn was runner up in the girls 1600, Klarissa Dowdy was runner up in the girls 300 meter hurdles, and Ashlyn Schauda placed third in the girls 3200.
