Robledo Makes First Court Appearance

COLUMBUS - A Columbus man charged for shooting a police officer made his first appearance in the Platte County Court on Monday morning. 24-year-old Jorge Robledo faces nine felony charges following an incident on June 7 where a Columbus Police Officer was shot. According to an arrest affidavit, Sergeant Brad Wangler and Officer Jeff Anderson attempted to arrest Robledo for outstanding warrants in Hall County, and police say that Sgt. Wangler was shot and injured by Robledo. Charges filed against Robledo include use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony, first degree assault on an officer, possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person, and attempted first degree murder. Three of the charges carry a maximum life sentence in prison, and six counts are enhanced by the habitual criminal statute. During the appearance, Robledo’s attorney Kaz Long waived the right to a preliminary hearing, bounding Robledo over to the Platte County District Court. After a recommendation that Robledo be held without bond or nothing less than $1 million, Judge Frank Skorupa set bond at $2 million, 10%. Robledo will next appear in the Platte County District Court on August 24 at 10 A.M.
