Nebraska City Priest Placed On Leave For “Moral Failing”

NEBRASKA CITY – Bishop James Conley of the Lincoln Diocese has posted a notice regarding disciplinary action. Fr. Mark Cyza, chief administrator of Lourdes Central Catholic Schools and pastor of St. Benedict parish in Nebraska City, will take a temporary leave of absence from his current priestly assignments. The notice posted on the diocese website says Fr. Cyza recently disclosed a moral failing that was committed within the past few years involving immoral conduct with an adult woman. The woman was not an employee of the parish or school. The diocese has not received any allegations of criminal wrongdoing and there have been no reported violations of the safety of minors. The bishop said Father Cyza has repented of his failings.  Bishop Conley will make an informed decision about the next step in Father Cyza’s ministry. Father Jonathan Haschke is appointed interim chief administrative officer of Lourdes Central Catholic School. Father Michael Ventre is appointed administrator of St. Benedict parish in Nebraska City.
