LEXINGTON, Neb.— A 38-year-old Lexington woman is in custody after a pedestrian-vehicle accident on Tuesday that led officers to a stolen vehicle that was later discovered burned just outside of city limits.
According to a release from Lexington Police Captain Phil Lauby, officers were dispatched at approximately 7:35 PM on Tuesday night to the intersection of 11th and Washington Streets, where a 12-year-old boy and a 34-year-old woman were struck while crossing the road. The involved vehicle fed the scene.
The boy was not injured, but the woman was transported to Lexington Regional Health Center before being transferred to another medical facility due to the severity of her injuries.
Captain Lauby said that during the investigation, officers got a report of a stolen vehicle that matched the description of the one involved in the hit-and-run. Further investigation revealed the vehicle had been taken from its owner just minutes before the incident by a known associate.
Several hours later, officers responded to a vehicle fire outside the city limits and quickly identified the burned vehicle as the one connected to the theft and the pedestrian accident. A suspect in the area of the fire was detained and taken into custody.
Identified as 38-year-old Alondra Solache of Lexington, she was arrested on several charges including motor vehicle theft, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to render aid, driving under suspension, driving under the influence, and child abuse.
According to Wednesday’s release, the investigation is still ongoing.
Lexington Police were assisted by the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office and the Nebraska State Patrol.
