NORTH PLATTE— Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol have arrested one person for motor vehicle homicide as the investigation continues into a fatal crash in Lincoln County earlier this month.
On Saturday, August 15, troopers responded to a crash involving two semis on Interstate 80 near mile marker 198. The crash involved a semi/flat-bed trailer and a semi/trailer.
Preliminary investigation showed that the semi/flat-bed trailer had been parked on the shoulder of I-80. It then merged onto I-80 and was traveling below the minimum speed limit when it was struck from behind by the other semi. The driver of the second semi, Jose Espinosa Salazar, 40, of Florida, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
After further investigation, the driver of the first semi, Aleks Latsabidze, 46, of New York, has been arrested for motor vehicle homicide. The investigation remains ongoing. Latsabidze is lodged in Lincoln County Jail.
