NSP Warns of Counterfeit Pills After Recent Overdoses

MCCOOK, NEB- The Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) is raising awareness about drug overdose cases in McCook and Culbertson, Nebraska. In the last 3 days, NSP has investigated two cases of drug overdose.

In McCook, the case resulted in the death of a 22-year-old female. The McCook Police Department is currently investigating the case.

NSP is investigating the overdose case in Culbertson with assistance from the Hitchcock County Sheriff’s Office. Unlike the case in McCook, the case in Culbertson did not result in a death.

Both cases are believed to involve similar counterfeit pills, made to look like legitimate prescription pills. Investigators believe the pills contain synthetic opioids, which can be lethal with a very small dose. NSP has also been in contact with local agencies regarding the potential connection between the cases.

“These cases are tragic, and it’s imperative that people understand the dangers associated with counterfeit pills,” said Captain Jason Scott, Commander of NSP Investigative Services. “Never take prescription pills unless they are prescribed by a physician and come directly from a pharmacy.”

Anyone with information about these counterfeit pills or any overdose case that has occurred in the southwest area of Nebraska in recent days should contact the Nebraska State Patrol Troop D Investigative Services Office at (308) 535-8050.
