Snow Removal Ordinance Reminders for Broken Bow Residents

BROKEN BOW – Courtesy of the Broken Bow Police Department:

Chief Steve Scott is reminding the public of Ordinances for Snow Removal and on-street parking.

Ordinance 92.050 states that it shall be unlawful for any occupant of a lot or lots or owner of any vacant lot of lots within the corporate limits to allow snow, sleet, mud, ice, or other substance to accumulate on sidewalks or to permit as snow, sleet, ice, mud or other substance to remain upon the sidewalk. Unless the City Council has stated differently, all sidewalks within the business district shall be cleaned within five hours after the end of a storm, unless the storm or fall of snow had taken place during the night in which the sidewalk must be cleaned before 9:00 a.m. the following day and sidewalks within the residential areas of the city shall be cleaned within 24 hours after the end of the storm.

Chief Steve Scott also reminds the public that during this snowy season, it’s very important to move your vehicles following a snowstorm.

Under City Ordinance 72.10, it is unlawful to park vehicles in the same spot for more than 24 consecutive hours on streets within the City of Broken Bow, with the exception if a different maximum time limit is posted (such as the 15-minute maximum on some downtown parking spots).

Chief Steve Scott also noted that the overtime parking law applies to all city streets and not just during snow storms.
