Nebraska Primary Election held Tuesday, May 12

Tuesday, May 12, 2026, is Primary Election Day in Nebraska with polls open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Candidates for the election were finalized in March of 2026. A list of finalized candidates in Custer County can be found here: https://sandhillsexpress.com/local-news/a-look-at-the-custer-county-candidates-filed-for-primary-election-in-may/. Any positions not contested will not appear on primary ballots.

This year, residents of Custer County can expect to vote on a Representative in Congress for District 3, Senator, Governor, Secretary of State, and local elected officials.

Voters can find their polling place and review sample ballots before heading to the polls using ne.gov/go/votercheck.

In Nebraska, voters are required to present an acceptable photo ID to vote. If a voter does not have valid photo ID, they may still cast their vote, but the voter must present their photo ID to their county election office by the close of business on Tuesday, May 19, 2026. IDs may be expired, but they must still have the voter’s name and photo.

Any early voting ballots must be returned to their county election offices or a secure ballot drop-off box by the time polls close on Election Day.
