OCONTO, NE – Two semi truck drivers have been treated and released from the hospital as a result of a collision that took place this past Friday just after noon at the intersection of Highway 21 and Highway 40 south of Oconto.

According to the Custer County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arriving on scene observed a silver semi with disabling damages in the middle of the intersection as well as a semi and tanker trailer tipped onto its driver side in a north ditch.

A preliminary report with witness statements and scene observations indicates that the silver semi was northbound on Highway 21 when it failed to yield the right-of-way to the semi and tanker trailer that was westbound on Highway 40. The northbound semi collided with the driver side of the westbound semi/tanker, which entered a nearby ditch and overturned to its driver side.

Both drivers were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney where they were treated and later released. Both were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident.

Trumbull Towing was noted as assisting with the recovery of both vehicles.
