The Dawson County Fairgrounds in Lexington will come alive this week as it host’s the annual Dawson County Fair. Representatives of the Dawson County Ag Society visited with KCNI/KBBN Tuesday morning about this year’s fair. While the fair will feature events and entertainment options, the heartbeat of the fair is the 4-H exhibitors. The public is encouraged to come show their support for the youth as they show off their livestock and other exhibits that will be showcased at this year’s fair. Organizers urge those attending to check out this year’s open class building which will be showcasing different demonstrations.
“ I hope everyone comes out. I’d like to touch on the open class building this year. Besides the exhibits that they have, they’re doing live demos on certain evenings that they’re open. So, they’ll have sourdough demos, they have barn quilt painting. It’s something new they’re trying, it’ll be a fun time there as well.”
In conjunction with the fair is the Platte Valley Auto Rodeo with full performances on Friday and Saturday featuring top notch talent.
“It takes a lot of those great rodeo athletes to put on a good show for us. You know, we draw a pretty good group of people that come here because we feel like we’ve got a good facility and are proud of it. And like I said, Tom (stock contractor) brings great stock which is as good as you’re going to find. So, it does attract a lot of talent. We also have fourteen and under steer riding on Friday night during the Friday night performance. So, if there’s any kids that want to come out and try that, it’s always fun for the fans to watch.”
Organizers stressed that this year’s fair could not be a success without the tremendous volunteers and the support they receive from the area.
“We absolutely could not do this without all the help. All the volunteers, number one, and our sponsors are fantastic. You know, everybody feels a little financial crunch once in a while, but we are blessed to live in a great part of the world where all you have to do is ask and they will show up.”
