The Broken Bow Post 126 Seniors baseball and Spirit 18U softball teams were both in action on Friday on the diamond, with each starting play in a tournament away from home.
Post 126 Seniors fall 9-1 to Post 8 Ambassador Health (Nebraska City)
The Broken Bow Seniors lost 9-1 to Nebraska City on Friday afternoon in their opening matchup as a part of the Plattsmouth wood bat tournament. Six runs scored by Nebraska City in the sixth inning were able to put the contest out of reach for Broken Bow.
Nebraska City scored first in the bottom of the first, only to be answered in the third inning on a Jackson Hall RBI. Nebraska City would answer immediately though, plating two runs later in the inning. The two teams would play scoreless for 2 1/2 more innings before Nebraska City’s six run burst powered by an error, a Riley Penney double, and a Sam Rovetto walk that scored a run.
Jackson Hall surrendered four hits and four runs (one earned) over five innings of pitching work. He struck out two and walked four. Hall, Dom Nowak, and Drew Ellis all had hits for Broken Bow.
The seniors will face Bennington Post 266 and tournament host Plattsmouth in Saturday action. Friday’s loss drops the seniors to 2-1 in the young season.
Late comeback not enough for Broken Bow Spirit
The Broken Bow Spirit 18U softball team is in Kearney at the Kearney Klassic Tournament this weekend, opening play Friday evening against Dmilaco Select 16U where they fell 5-7.
The first inning held plenty of scoring, with Broken Bow opening the game scoring on an opponent error and a wild pitch. In the bottom of the inning, Dmilaco Select got a triple from Lillian Taillon that put them ahead 3-2 before extending that lead in the second inning to 7-2.
Broken Bow put on their rally caps in a comeback effort that included scores on an error, a triple, and a ground out in the third inning. The attempt came up short and Broken Bow came up two runs short of equaling their opponent on the scoreboard.
Skylar Smith and Anslee Campbell each had an RBI to pace Broken Bow’s effort at the plate.
The Spirit will continue play at the Kearney Klassic Tournament on Saturday with games against Prodigy and Northwest Voyagers 18U. They will wrap up the tournament on Sunday.
