The NSAA state track and field championships continued on Friday with the opening day of competition for Classes C and D.
Among the area highlights, Anselmo-Merna’s Trevor Duryea was the state runner-up in the Class D boys triple jump with an effort of 45′ 8.75″. Destrey White and Colin Wright of Anselmo-Merna both medaled in the Class D boys high jump. White was the third place medalist clearing 6′ 5″ and Wright medaled in 7th place clearing 6′ 1″.
Lily Thornton of Anselmo-Merna and Evalynn Wonch of South Loup both medaled in the Class D girls discus. Each had a top effort of 120′ 9″. On the tie break, Thornton received the fifth place medal and Wonch placed sixth.
Taryn Arbuthnot of SEM was the 8th place medalist in the Class D girls long jump at 16′ 8.25″.
Mullen took the third place medal in the Class D girls 4×800 meter relay. The team of Abigail Gracey, Harper Andersen, Ady Hampton, and Kaisley Phipps posted a time of 10:23.67.
Mieke van der Walt of Burwell medaled in the Class D girls 400 meters finishing 6th in a time of 59.78 seconds.
Other area highlights from Friday included Tim Myers and Caenyn Priest, both of Anselmo-Merna, making the finals in the Class D boys 110 meter hurdles. Colin Wright of Anselmo-Merna qualified for the finals in both the Class D boys 100 and 200 meter dash. Oran Grint of Twin Loup qualified for the finals in the Class D boys 200. Mieke van der Walt of Burwell qualified for the finals of the Class D girls 100 meter hurdles.
