Area Athletes Compete in Class D District Track Today

Area track athletes will attempt to qualify for the NSAA state track and field championships today.  Nine district meets in Class D will take place today across the state.  Anselmo-Merna, Mullen, Sandhills Valley, Sandhills/Thedford, and South Loup will be among the area teams competing today at the D-8 district meet in Paxton.  Burwell will be hosting the D-5 district meet which will include SEM, Ansley/Litchfield, and Twin Loup.

The top two places in each individual running event will automatically qualify for the state tournament.  The next six fastest times of the non-qualifiers across all districts will also qualify.  The winning team of each relay event will qualify for state plus the next seven fastest times of all non-qualifiers.

In the field events, the top two places in the long jump, triple jump, shot put, and discus will qualify for state.  The next six best performances from all other non-qualifiers will also be eligible for the state tournament.  The top two places in the pole vault and high jump will qualify for state.  Any athlete clearing 12′ 6″ in the boys pole vault and 9′ 2″ in the girls pole vault will automatically qualify for state regardless of place.  Any athlete clearing 6′ 1″ in the boys high jump and 4′ 11″ in the girls high jump automatically qualify for state.

Central Nebraska’s Sports Source will be live in Paxton providing hourly updates on the D-8 and D-5 district track meets beginning in the 11 a.m. hour.

The NSAA Class D state track and field championships will take place May 22nd and 23rd at Burke Stadium in Omaha.
