Broken Bow Track Athletes to Compete at B-6 District Track Meet

Broken Bow will be among the teams competing today at the B-6 district track and field championships in Alliance as athletes attempt to qualify for the NSAA state track championships in Omaha later in the month.  Joining Broken Bow at today’s meet will be teams from Alliance, Chadron, Cozad, Gering, Gothenburg, Lexington, McCook, Scottsbluff, and Sidney.

There will be six Class B district meets taking place today around the state.

The top three places in each individual running event will automatically qualify for the state tournament.  The next six fastest times of the non-qualifiers across all districts will also qualify.  The top two places in each relay event will qualify for state plus the next four fastest times of all non-qualifiers.

The top three places in the following field events (long jump, triple jump, shot put, and discus) will qualify for state plus the next six best performances of all non-qualifiers.  The top three places in the pole vault and high jump will qualify for state.  Any athlete clearing 13′ 10″ in the boys pole vault and 10′ 6″ in the girls pole vault will automatically qualify for state regardless of place.  Any athlete clearing 6′ 1″ in the boys high jump and 5′ 2″ in the girls high jump automatically qualify for state.

A minimum height of 9′ 6″ must be cleared in the boys pole vault and a minimum height of 6′ 6″ must be cleared in the girls pole vault to qualify for state.

Events are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. central time.  Central Nebraska’s Sports Source will be reporting live during the day with hourly updates on KBBN 95.3 FM starting with the noon sports report.
