Anselmo-Merna, Mullen, and Sandhills Valley were among the teams that competed at the Paxton Track Invite on Thursday. Anselmo-Merna won the boys team championship with 129 points and Mullen was second with 67 points. Mullen won the girls team title with 111 points and Brady was second with 100 points.
Among the area highlights, Anselmo-Merna took the top two spots in the boys high jump. Colin Wright was the champion clearing 6′ 5″ and Destrey White was second clearing 5′ 11″. The two also finished first and second in the 100. Wright was first in a time of 11.33 seconds and White was second. The same happened in the 200 with Wright winning in a time of 23.37, White was second, and Mullen’s Alex Werner came in third in the 200. Anselmo-Merna’s Trevor Duryea won the boys triple jump with a leap of 42′ 7.5″ and was second in the boys long jump. Mullen’s Tate Kvanvig won the boys shot put with a winning effort of 46′ 3.75″. Drake Doss of Anselmo-Merna placed third in the shot put. Kvanvig placed third in the discus. Tim Myers of Anselmo-Merna won the boys 110 meter hurdles in a time of 15.7 seconds followed by Caenyn Priest of Anselmo-Merna in second and Rhoshykee Bruns of Sandhills Valley placed third. Mullen’s Cayden Hampton won the boys 300 meter hurdles in a time of 41.32 seconds. AM’s Caenyn Priest placed third in the boys triple jump. Nick Gonzalez of Mullen was third in the boys 400.
Lily Thornton of Anselmo-Merna won the girls discus with a winning throw of 114′ 3″. AM’s Malloree Bartak won the girls shot put with an effort of 36′ 8.5″. Mullen finished first, second, and third in the girls high jump. Abigail Gracey was champion at 4′ 10″ followed by Lola Wingebach in second and Ella Rice was third. Brynne McCully of Mullen won the girls 400 in a winning time of 1:03.69. McCully also won the girls 200 in a time of 28.56 with teammate Chloe Newman placing second. Devanee Connell of Sandhills Valley was runner up in the girls long jump. Shayleigh Coleman of Anselmo-Merna was runner up in both the girls 100 meter hurdles and 300 meter hurdles. Ady Hampton was runner up in the girls 800. Briley Kramer of Sandhills Valley was third in the 300 meter hurdles.
In the relays, Anselmo-Merna won the boys 4×100 meter relay. The team of Trevor Duryea, Destrey White, Dane Duryea, and Colin Wright posted a winning time of 44.38 seconds. Mullen was third in the boys 4×100. Anselmo-Merna won the girls 4×100. The team of Jenna Bartak, Shayleigh Coleman, Kenzie Russell, and Malloree Bartak had the winning time of 54.7 seconds. Mullen was second in the 4×100. Mullen won the girls 4×800 meter relay. The team of Abigail Gracey, Ady Hampton, Kaisley Phipps, and Harper Andersen posted a winning time of 10:38.67. Mullen also won the girls 4×400. The team of Chloe Newman, Harper Andersen, Abigail Gracey, and Brynne McCully had a winning time of 4:28.69. Mullen won the boys 4×400. The team of Alex Werner, Brandon Hardin, Nick Gonzalez, and Cayden Hampton had a winning time of 3:37.06.
