The NSAA boys state wrestling championships continued on Friday. The day concluded with the championship semifinals and 3rd round consolation matches.
Broken Bow’s Cobe Wells advanced to the state finals in Class C at 175 lbs. Wells scored a takedown with two seconds left in the match to secure a thrilling 10-9 decision win over James Kansteiner of Conestoga in the semifinals. Wells improves his record to 43-4 and advances to the state championship match on Saturday where he will face undefeated and returning state champion Alex Meinecke of St. Paul.
Jason Kraus of Mullen advanced to the state finals in Class D at 157 lbs. Kraus scored a 2-0 decision win over Kaleb Gardner of Osmond-Wausa to advance. Kraus collected his 40th win of the season and advances to face Kolton Thoene of Burwell for the title. Thoene defeated Austin Pelster of Homer 2-1 to advance. Thoene was one of three Burwell wrestlers to advance to the finals. Also advancing were Brody Jensen at 132 lbs. and Drew Dawe at 138.
In other area notes, Cozad sent two wrestlers to the finals in Class C. Wyatt Hueftle advanced to the finals at 106 lbs. and Drake Hasbrouck advanced at 144 lbs.
