Boys State Wrestling – Day One Area Recap – Broken Bow Sends Three to the Semis and Mullen Sends Two

The NSAA boys state wrestling championships began Thursday at the CHI Health Center in Omaha.  Among the area highlights, Broken Bow advanced three wrestlers into the semifinals on Friday night.  Braxon Rynearson defeated Colton Juzenas of Boone Central by major decision in the quarterfinals to advance.  Rynearson will face Landon Sund of Bishop Neumann in the Class C 150 lb. semifinals on Friday night.  Cobe Wells advanced to the Class C semifinals at 175 lbs.  Wells held off Parker Hatch of Minden in the quarterfinals winning by a 4-2 decision.  Wells will face James Kansteiner of Connestoga in the semifinals.  Broken Bow’s Devon Baum advanced to the Class C semis at 285 lbs.  Baum won by fall over Hunter McLeod of Red Cloud/Blue Hill in the quarters to advance.  Baum will face the defending state champion Jared Doxey of Winnebago in the semifinals.  Aidan Markham of Broken Bow lost his opening round match on Thursday and will wrestle in the first round consolations on Friday.

In other area highlights, Mullen sent two wrestlers to the semifinal round on Friday.  Jason Kraus advanced to the Class D 157 lb. semifinals with a 10-6 decision win over Luke Harms of Weeping Water in the quarterfinals.  Kraus will face Kaleb Gardner of Osmond-Wausa in the semis.  Tate Kvanvig of Mullen advanced to semis at 215 lbs.  Kvanvig faced Wyatt Stieb of Arcadia/Loup City in the quarterfinals.  It was an outstanding match that was decided by sudden victory with Kvanvig scoring a takedown in overtime to advance.  Kvanvig will go up against Tyson Klingelhoefer of Amherst in the semifinals.

Central Nebraska’s Sports Source will provide live coverage of all area matches on Friday.  The day begins with first round consolation matches for classes B and C at 9:30.  Session four of the tournament begins at 12:30 on Friday with first round consolation matches for classes A and D.  The championship semifinals and 3rd round consolation matches for all classes will begin at 6 p.m. Friday evening.  Tune in to KBBN 95.3 FM and kbbn.com for full coverage.
