Girls State Wrestling Area Recap

The NSAA girls state wrestling championships came to their conclusion Wednesday at the CHI Health Center in Omaha.

Broken Bow’s Ida Bumgarner took home the silver medal in the Class B 190 lb. weight class.  Bumgarner advanced to the finals with a 4-2 decision win over Kloe Knutson of Louisville in the semifinals.  Bumgarner would face undefeated and defending champion Addison Arvdal of Sutherland for the Class B 190 lb. championship.  It was a rematch of last year’s state championship at that weight class.  In the end, Arvdal would hold off Bumgarner for a 15-8 decision win.  Bumgarner concludes the season with an overall record of 36-6.

SEM’s Olivia McDonald claimed the 4th place medal in Class B at 120 lbs.  McDonald lost by fall to Hayleigh Myers of Ord in the championship semifinals but came back strong in the consolation semifinals winning by fall over Abbey Chipps of Summerland to advance to the third place match.  Madelynn Zierott of Louisville won by fall over McDonald in the third place match.  The SEM freshman caps off her state tournament experience with a fourth place finish.

Arcadia/Loup City’s Rylee Kursave finished fifth in Class B at 170 lbs.  Kursave lost in the semifinals by fall to Isabelle Kuehler of Pierce then lost in the consolation semifinals to Libby Evans of Elgin Public / Pope John.  Kursave came back strong to secure the fifth place medal winning by fall over Alexandria Ziska of Wayne.

In other area notes Abby Negley of Cozad won the Class B 110 lb. state championship.  Negley won by tech fall over Baylee Chessmore of Neligh-Oakdale in the championship match.
