The NSAA girls state wrestling championships began Tuesday at the CHI Health Center in Omaha. Recapping Class B area results
Broken Bow’s Ida Bumgarner advanced to the state semifinals. Bumgarner collected two wins by fall to advance to the semifinal round at 190 lbs. Rylee Kursave of Arcadia/Loup City advanced to the semifinals at 170 lbs. The defending state champion collected two wins by fall to advance. Olivia McDonald of SEM collected two wins by fall to advance to the Class B semifinal round at 120 lbs.
In other area notes, Clysta Brott of Ansley/Litchfield won her opening round match by decision but then lost in the quarterfinals to drop into the consolation bracket at 130 lbs. Ellie Scoville of SEM won her opening round match but then lost in the quarterfinals and will now try to fight back through the consolation bracket on Wednesday.
Broken Bow’s Zoe Jones (115), Lailah Jones (120), and Stayci Medina Lopez (170) all lost their opening round matches and will now wrestle in the 1st round of consolations Wednesday morning. Other area wrestlers who will compete in 1st round consolation matches Wednesday include Hay Lynn Glidden of Sandhills/Thedford (125), and Georgia Wingebach of Mullen (130).
Other area notes from day one, Brett Buss of Burwell will wrestle in the first round of consolations. Cozad’s Abby Negley advanced to the semifinals at 110 lbs. and Andrea Saravia of Cozad lost her opening round match to fall into the consolation bracket.
Central Nebraska Sports Source will provide live coverage of area wrestlers on Wednesday beginning with first round consolation matches at 9 a.m. all the way through the finals on Wednesday night.
