Championship Saturday at the MNAC basketball tournament took place at the Broken Bow High School gym. Twin Loup repeated as the boys tournament champion. The Wolves held off Sandhills/Thedford in a highly entertaining championship game. The teams went back and forth in the first half with high quality shot making as Twin Loup led 45-39 at halftime. In the second half, Twin Loup outscored Sandhills/Thedford 24-8 in the third to create separation. S/T fought back in the fourth outscoring Twin Loup 21-9 in the final eight minutes but the deficit was too much to overcome as Twin Loup held on for a 78-68 win. Twin Loup’s Yahya Harris delivered an amazing performance. The sophomore had 45
points after the third quarter and finished with a game high 47. The supporting cast was good as well with Carter Hall and Jackson Hall each chipping in 11 points apiece. Sandhills/Thedford had three players finish in double figures led by Maurice Robinson who finished with a team high 17 points.
The Mullen Lady Broncos repeated as girls tournament champions. Mullen held off Brady
in the championship game 42-33. Mullen trailed by a point at the end of the first quarter but outscored Brady 24-15 in the middle two quarters combined fighting off Brady in the fourth to secure a 42-33 win. Hayley Donohoe led Mullen with a game high 18 points following a 26 point performance in the semifinals. Riley Hegland also finished in double figures with eleven. Brady was led by Lydia McGown who finished with a team high twelve points.

In other action from championship Saturday, Mullen’s Ben Werner made three 3’s in the final quarter including the game winner with two seconds left to lift the Broncos over Anselmo-Merna in the boys consolation game 43-42. Mullen was led by Jacob Walker who finished with 14 points and Dane Duryea led Anselmo-Merna with a game high 17.
Anselmo-Merna held off Sandhills/Thedford in the girls consolation game 43-38. Lily Thornton finished with a game high 17 to lead AM. Emma Ray and Josie Morrow each scored twelve to lead the way for S/T
