The championship games are now set for the Mid Nebraska Activities Conference basketball tournaments. The tournament semifinals were played Thursday at Broken Bow High School. Last year’s boys tournament champion Twin Loup will have the opportunity to defend their title this season as the Wolves got by Anselmo-Merna in the boys semifinals 55-36. Twin Loup’s Yahya Harris led all scorers with a game high 23 points and Carter Hall also finished in double figures to help the Wolves advance to the final. Anselmo-Merna was led by Dane Duryea who finished with a team high 12 points and Caenyn Priest also finished in double figures for the Coyotes with 10 points. Twin Loup’s opponent in the final will be #2 seed Sandhills/Thedford. The Knights knocked off Mullen 59-37. S/T jumped out quickly and never looked back. Sandhills/Thedford was led by Maurice Robinson who finished with a game high 21 points. Brandon Goshorn also finished in double figures with 15 to help S/T advance. Mullen was led by Ben Werner and Jacob Walker who each finished with a team high 11 points.
On the girls side, last year’s tournament champion will also have the opportunity to defend their title as top seed Mullen held off Anselmo-Merna in the girls semifinals 56-40 to advance to the championship game. Hayley Donohoe had a big night for the Lady Broncos finishing with a game high 26 points and Riley Hegland also finished in double figures for Mullen with 10 points. Anselmo-Merna was led by Shayleigh Coleman who finished with 16 points. Mullen will face #2 seed Brady for the tournament title. Brady held off Sandhills/Thedford 47-42. Payton Stienike led the way for Brady with a game high 20 points and Lydia McGown also finished in double figures with 11 to help the Lady Eagles advance. Sandhills/Thedford was led by Josie Morrow who had a team high 17.
Championship Saturday is now set. The schedule is as follows
Boys 3rd place consolation – Anselmo-Merna vs Mullen – 2:30
Girls 3rd place consolation – Anselmo-Merna vs Sandhills/Thedford – 4 p.m.
Boys Championship – Twin Loup vs Sandhills/Thedford – 5:30
Girls Championship – Mullen vs Brady – 7 p.m.
