SEM Claims Third Place Trophy at State Volleyball / Arbuthnot Named to All Tournament Team

SEM claimed the third place trophy at the NSAA state volleyball championships with a five set win over Dundy County Stratton in the Class D2 consolation match played Saturday at Lincoln East High School.  SEM started out strong taking the first set 25-19 and then took the second set 25-20.  SEM built a lead in set three but DCS battled from behind and overtook the Mustangs to stay alive in the match winning 25-21 in the third.  DCS then tied the match by taking set #4 25-20.  DCS jumped out early in the fifth set but SEM came back to take the set 15-7 and claim the match 3-2.  Taryn Arbuthnot finished with a match high 30 kills to lead SEM.  Arbuthnot was recognized by the Lincoln Journal Star and other publications this past weekend as she was named to the Journal Star’s Class D2 state volleyball all tournament team. Arbuthnot finished with 84 total kills during three matches at the state tournament. Freshman Kyler Jones finished with 15 kills in the third place match for the Mustangs who conclude their season with an overall record of 28-7.
