The opening round of the Mid Nebraska Activities Conference volleyball tournament was played on Thursday. The top seed Sandhills/Thedford advanced to the semifinals with a straight set win over Twin Loup (25-5, 25-11). They will face Arthur County in the semifinals on Saturday. Arthur County knocked off #4 seed Anselmo-Merna 2-1. Every set was decided by a 25-23 score. AM won the first set and Arthur County came back to win the second. Anselmo-Merna jumped out to a big lead early in set #3 but Arthur County fought back and took their first lead of the set at 23-22 and won the set 25-23 to advance. On the other side of the bracket, the #3 seed Mullen held off South Loup 2-1. Mullen won the opening set 25-22 but South Loup came back to take the second 25-19. Mullen would prevail in the third 25-20 to advance to the semifinals where they will face #2 seed Brady. Brady held off Sandhills Valley in two close sets 26-24, 25-23. The final day of the MNAC tournament will take place at Brady High School.
