Rescheduled Food Delivery for Mobile Food Pantry To Help Fight Hunger in Broken Bow

Crossroads Mission Avenue is teaming up with Food Bank for the Heartland to provide a Mobile Food Pantry in Broken Bow. Due to a scheduling issue, the Food Pantry truck was unable to come to the Custer County Fairgrounds last weekend, October 11.

The Mobile Food Pantry is scheduled again for this upcoming Saturday, October 18. Food distribution begins at 9:00 AM, and continues until the supplies run out.  The Food Pantry will once again be set up at the Custer County Fairgrounds in Broken Bow.

Daniel Bowler, Crossroads Mission Avenue Executive Director said Crossroads has been working with Food Bank for the Heartland going on about two years.

Food Bank for the Heartland was looking for an organization that would take on the coordination so that the mobile pantry could continue to exist in this county,” said Bowler. “You know there are people who sometimes have to make hard decisions like between paying rent and buying groceries or buying groceries and paying utility bills or things like that. So we just want to work together to alleviate that issue.”

On average, 20 and up to 30 people volunteer to provide food boxes at the Mobile Food Pantry. However, Crossroads Mission Avenue notes that volunteers are always appreciated. Individuals seeking to help with the Mobile Food Pantry or other activities are welcome to show up the day of an event. Bowler though recommends signing up on Crossroads’ volunteer app at CrossroadsMission.com or call  402-834-2435 with questions.

Last year about 300 families took advantage of the food program. There are no requirements and no cost to obtain food from the Mobile Food Pantry – all are welcome.
