Mullen claimed the championship at the Anselmo-Merna volleyball invite on Saturday. Mullen defeated Ainsworth 2-1 (13-25, 25-19, 25-18) in the opening round followed by a 2-1 (18-25, 25-5, 25-19) in the semifinals over Hay Springs. The Lady Broncos faced St. Mary’s of O’Neill in the title match. St. Mary’s road to the final included a straight set win over Medicine Valley followed by a 2-0 (25-19, 25-15) over Anselmo-Merna in the semis. In the championship match, Mullen prevailed in straight sets 25-16, 25-21. In other area action from the tournament, Anselmo-Merna finished 1-2 on the day winning over Bertrand in the opening round but falling to Hay Springs 2-0 (25-18, 25-23) in the 3rd place consolation match. Sandhills Valley finished 1-2 on the day winning 2-1 (23-25, 25-16, 25-15) in the 7th place consolation match.
Sandhills/Thedford was runner-up at the Arcadia/Loup City Rebel Invite. S/T won in straight sets over Gibbon in the opening round followed by a 2-0 (25-8, 25-18) win over Arcadia/Loup City in the semifinals. The Lady Knights faced Centura in the final. Centura would prevail in straight sets 25-18, 25-15. In other area action from the tournament, Arcadia/Loup City went 1-2 on the day. The Lady Rebels defeated Ravenna in the opening round 2-1 (25-13, 24-26, 25-21) but fell to West Holt in the 3rd place consolation match 2-0 (18-25, 16-25).
