Broken Bow was among the teams that competed at the B-5 district track and field championships in Aurora on Tuesday. Northwest won both the boys and girls district team titles. Broken Bow finished 8th in the girls team standings with 46 points and Broken Bow was 9th in the boys team standings with 23 points.
Broken Bow’s Drew Ellis qualified for state in the boys shot put. The top three in all field events automatically qualified for the state meet. Ellis finished second in the district with an effort of 49′ 9.75″. Gunner Baltz qualified for state in the boys discus finishing third with an effort of 136′ 9″. Broken Bow’s Coy Wardyn qualified for state in the boys pole vault. Wardyn tied for third and met the automatic qualifying height of 13′ 6″.
The top three in all individual running events automatically qualified for the state meet next week in Omaha. Klarissa Dowdy qualified for state in the girls 100 meter hurdles and 300 hurdles finishing second in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.39 seconds and finishing second in the 300 meter hurdles with a new school record time of 45.93 seconds. Broken Bow’s Maren Chapin qualified for state in the girls 400 finishing third in a time of 1:00.51.
The top two places in all relays qualified for state. Broken Bow finished second in the girls 4×800 meter relay. The team of Maren Chapin, Gaby Staples, Ashlyn Schauda, and Halle Quinn qualified for state with a new school record time of 10:04.12. Broken Bow placed 2nd in the girls 4×400. The team of Aliya Myer, Klarissa Dowdy, Halle Quinn, and Maren Chapin qualified for state with a time of 4:08.4.
Additional qualifiers for Broken Bow based on their district performance included Janae Marten in the girls shot put. Marten finished 5th with an effort of 36′ 11.75″ which was one of the top six performances of all non automatic qualifiers. Also qualifying for state was Keelyn Shea in the girls discus. Shea was 4th in the district with a qualifying effort of 126′ 11″.
Other top six medalists for Broken Bow at the district meet were Drew Ellis 4th in the boys shot put and Halle Quinn 5th in the girls 800.
