Callaway man pleads guilty to several sexual assault charges

CUSTER COUNTY, Neb. – Timothy Rosentrater, age 63 of Callaway, pled guilty on Thursday in Custer County District Court to several charges of sexual assault that occurred over a period eclipsing more than 20 years.

In March of 2024, Rosentrater faced a single charge after being arrested the previous month when a woman accused him of assaulting her during a seizure episode.

During the progress of that case, more women came forward and accused Rosentrater of several sexual assault instances that occurred when they were as young as 12 years old. Rosentrater was then charged with 14 counts of sexual assault in May of last year.

Thursday morning’s appearance brought a second amendment to the case in the form of a plea agreement. With a plea of guilty or no contest, nine charges against Rosentrater would be dropped, leaving five. Deputy County Attorney Kayla Clark said that the state recommendation was a minimum of 60 years cumulative incarceration on those charges.

Rosentrater pled guilty to all five charges, which included two counts of sexual assault of a child (Class IIIA felonies), two counts of first degree sexual assault (Class II felonies), and one charge of criminal attempt of a class II felony (Class IIA felony). The charges are from offenses ranging from 2002/2003 to 2024.

Rosentrater confirmed that by entering a plea of guilty, he was admitting the truth of the charges while also waiving his right to a jury trial.

Judge Karin Noakes ordered a pre-sentence investigation that will include a sex offender specific evaluation and set a sentencing for July 24.
