The Broken Bow athletic department hosted a letter of intent signing Tuesday for Broken Bow senior Klarissa Dowdy who signed her letter of intent to play volleyball for Hastings College. Dowdy helped lead Broken Bow to a 21-11 overall record this season and led the team in kills with 267. Hastings College competes in the Great Plains Athletic Conference and is under the direction of head coach Alex Allard. Dowdy shared what drew her to choose Hastings College.
“I really like the campus when I went and toured there. I really love the campus and I’ve been there for a few basketball camps and so overall I like their sports teams and stuff. When I talked to (coach) Allard about the practice and then I came to one of their practices on the day of my visit I really enjoyed it and I really liked the team and how they were and I really liked her as well.”
Dowdy played for Ansley/Litchfield as a freshman and sophomore and then transferred to Broken Bow for her junior and senior year. Dowdy talked about her volleyball journey and her growing love for the sport.
“Freshman year and sophomore year I was at Ansley and I loved that team, I loved them so much. Then I transferred to (Broken) Bow for academics and (coach) Morris helped me even more with it and I just grew to love it even more and it’s always had a spot in my heart.”
Dowdy talked about the competition that she faced this season and how she felt that has helped prepare her for competing at the collegiate level.
“Southwest Conference I feel like all of the teams are very, very good and they have some amazing athletes on their teams including Kearney Catholic which isn’t in the conference but I think there are multiple girls from Minden, Gothenburg, even Holdrege and Ogallala going to college volleyball and the volleyball is just so fast paced in this conference. It’s very intense and that intensity will help with college intensity because I think it is very similar.”
Outside of athletics Dowdy said she would like to pursue a degree in actuarial science.
