The NSAA state cross country championships took place Friday at the Kearney Country Club.
Broken Bow’s Ashlyn Schauda collected her first individual state cross country medal finishing 12th in the Class C girls competition. After placing just outside the top 15 last year as a freshman, Schauda broke into the top 15 of the state this year with a time of 20:25.3 to medal as a sophomore. Gothenburg finished third in the Class C girls team standings led by Scout Bell who finished 4th overall (20:03.9). Gothenburg was third in the Class C boys team standings. The Swedes were led by Tyler Hetz who finished third overall (16:45.2)
In Class D, Mullen finished sixth in the girls team standings. The Lady Broncos were led by Peyton Paxton who finished just outside the top 15 for a medal placing 17th in a time of 20:50.4. Riley Hegland of Mullen finished in the top 25 placing 23rd (21:13.1). Ella Cool of South Loup placed in the top 30 of the state finishing 26th (21:22).

In Class D boys, South Loup qualified for state as a team and finished 15th. The Bobcats were led by Jaden Baker who finished 48th (18:23.6). Connor Sutton of Sandhills/Thedford placed in the top 50 finishing 41st in a time of 18:14.9.
