Broken Bow Juniors fall in opening game of Area 6 Tournament

MINDEN – The Broken Bow Post 126 Juniors fell to the York Cornerstone Kings by a score of 9-1 Friday afternoon in Minden at the B6 Area Tournament.

Broken Bow scored their lone run in the top of the first inning as a Kayden Record single brought Kanzas Kellum across the plate.

York would answer with their biggest scoring inning of the game in the bottom of the first, however, tallying four runs. They would then score two runs in the third and three in the fifth to notch a final score of 9 to 1 in five innings.

Kayden Record led broken bow with one RBI, going 1 for 2 on the day. Jackson Hall and Record each collected a hit for the juniors. Kanzas Kellum stole two bases and Jackson Hall stole one as Broken Bow tried to use aggressive base running to get back into the game.

On the mound, Broken Bow’s Carter Hall pitched three relief innings surrendering one hit and two runs (none earned) with one strikeout. Caenyn Priest started at pitcher for the Juniors, giving up four hits and four runs, walking two and striking out none.

Jackson Holoch was the starting York pitcher, giving up two hits and one run over five innings of work while striking out two and walking one.

Six players recorded a hit for York, with Wyatt Gartner and Emmitt Dirks each contributing two RBIs.

Broken Bow falls into the losers bracket of the Area 6 Tournament, where they receive a bye on Saturday. They will await the loser of game five of the bracket, which could be #3 Minden, #6 Doniphan-Trumbull-Giltner, #7 Aurora Cooperative Post 42, or #2 Cozad Post 77. That game will take place on Sunday at 4 PM. York advances to take on #1 seed Holdrege at 4 PM Saturday for the right to advance in the winners bracket.
