BROKEN BOW, NE- A crowd consisting of students, staff, administration, the public, construction and architect representatives, and the media gathered next to the Broken Bow middle and high school buildings for a ground breaking ceremony Monday afternoon (May 13).

The scooping and turning over of a dozen shovels of dirt signifies the beginning of the $26.5 million bond that voters approved in November 2023.

Superintendent Darren Tobey told KCNI/KBBN news that crews will get started next Tuesday with work that mostly involves underground work and that June 7 is the projected date for demolition work to start.

The bond, which was revealed in September of 2023, sees 65% of new construction being focused on ag, auto, metals, and wood facilities as well as an updated fine arts center, updated science and business classrooms, a hallway to connect buildings, a new roof on the high school building, a new HVAC system in the AB building, and renovations to the high school gym.
