South Loup hosted its annual track and field invitational Thursday in Arnold. Athletes across the area and region fought through windy conditions and cool temperatures. Arcadia/Loup City won the girls team championship with 79 points. Sandhills/Thedford was second with 60 points and South Loup placed third with 50 points. South Loup won the boys team championship with 82 points. Hershey was runner up with 55 points and Mullen was third with 51.
Recapping some of the area highlights, Arcadia/Loup City’s Hayden Griffith was a double gold medal winner. Griffith won the boys long jump with a winning effort of 19′ 6.25″ and won the boys high jump clearing 5’8″. Jessica Stieb of Arcadia/Loup City swept the girls throwing events winning the shot put with an effort of 44′ 11.5″ and winning the discus with an effort of 130′ 3.25″. Tad Dimmitt of Sandhills Valley swept the boys throwing events winning the discus with an effort of 145′ 9.5″ and winning the shot put with an effort of 52′ 10.25″ . Tatum Kapustka of Arcadia/Loup City won the girls triple jump with an effort of 33′ 1/2″ and Coby Higgins of Sandhills/Thedford won the boys triple jump with a winning jump of 39′ 5.25″.
On the track, Koral Schmidt of Anselmo-Merna won the girls 400 meters in a winning time of 1:04.8. Schmidt would also win the girls 200 in a time of 27.74 seconds. Cache Gracey of South Loup won the boys 400 meters in a time of 52.18 seconds. Peyton Paxton of Mullen won the girls 3200 meter run in a time of 12:40.15. Paxton also won the girls 1600 in a time of 5:55.18. Ty Greenland of Arcadia/Loup City was champion of the boys 3200 in a winning time of 11:20.11. Tenley Rasmussen of Sandhills/Thedford was champion in the girls 100 meter dash with a winning time of 13.18 seconds. Tierston Moore of Mullen won the girls 100 meter hurdles in a time of 15.82 and Clayton Moore of Mullen won the boys 110 meter hurdles in a time of 15.22. Clayton Moore would also win the boys 300 meter hurdles in a time of 41.14 seconds. Landri Loos of Arcadia/Loup City won the girls 800 meters in a winning time of 2:39.03 and Silas Cool of South Loup won the boys 800 in a time of 2:09.67. South Loup’s Logan Recoy won the boys 1600 meter run in a winning time of 5:02.30.
In the relays, South Loup won the boys 4×800. The team of Trey Connell, Dawson Mason, Silas Cool, and Logan Recoy posted a winning time of 9:20.45. South Loup won the girls 4×800. The team of Ella Cool, Ava Pandorf, Ivy Tullis, and Tallianna Martin posted a winning time of 11:31.75. Sandhills/Thedford won the girls 4×100 meter relay. The team of Karley Haake, Dayle Haake, Tenley Rasmussen, and Anna Clark posted a winning time of 53.33 seconds. Sandhills/Thedford also won the girls 4×400. The team of Charlsie Teahon, Dayle Haake, Karley Haake, and Taylor Weber posted a winning time of 4:32.17. South Loup won the boys 4×400. The team of Cache Gracey, Silas Cool, Logan Recoy, and Dylan Pandorf posted a winning time of 3:37.96.
