Broken Bow Qualifies Six for State Track Championships

The Broken Bow girls and boys track teams competed at the B5 district championships Thursday in Lexington. Bow qualified six athletes for the state track and field championships in Omaha next week. Grayson Garey qualified in the boys long jump. Garey placed 5th overall but exceeded the automatic qualifying distance of 20’11” by going 21′ 1/2″ on his final jump of the day. Matt Ambler placed 4th in the boys pole vault but surpassed the automatic qualifying height of 13′ 2″ by clearing 13′ 6″. On the girls side, Kya Scott qualified in the girls high jump as she cleared 5′ to place 2nd on the day. Later in the day, Kya’s twin sister Kailyn would qualify in the girls 100 meter dash by placing third in a time of 13.05. Kali Staples qualified for state in the girls 1600 meter run finishing third and Lindsay Schauda qualified in the 300 meter hurdles placing 2nd in a time of 47.69. Schauda was also one spot away from automatically qualifying in the girls 400 meter dashing finishing fourth but did post a solid time of 1:02.41. The six fastest times of the non-qualifiers from all Class B districts will also qualify for state. Broken Bow also has hopes that the time posted by its girls 4×400 meter relay team will be fast enough to claim a spot at state. Bow placed 4th in the event in a time of 4:13.77.
