YWCA accepting dresses for upcoming “Gowns for Good” event

HASTINGS – Prom season is a few short months away, and one Hastings organization has a way to make your night more affordable.

This will be the seventh year the YWCA of Adams County will have their annual “Gowns for Good” event. The Y puts it on during homecoming and prom each year.

Girls will be able to shop through a variety of donated dresses of all shapes and sizes. Each one costs $30.

“We notice that it helps for savings, but it also helps for the confidence of the girls once they find that perfect dress,” said Carissa Uhrmacher, career services coordinator at the YWCA of Adams County. “We know that it’s a really fun event for these kids to remember for the rest of their lives. They just want something that makes them special.”

Uhrmacher said they sold about 130 dresses last year, which she said set a new record.

All the sales will go back to the YWCA to help fund their youth programs, which run solely off donations and grants.

The Y is still collecting gently used, recent dresses for the event. They’re also looking for volunteers to help out.

“Gowns for Good” runs from 1 to 4 p.m. February 14-17, 22-23 and March 8 and 15.
