Variant first spotted in New York detected in Nebraska

OMAHA, Neb. — A new variant of COVID-19 has been detected in Nebraska.

The Department of Health and Human Services has identified the state’s first case of a variant initially spotted in New York.

The variant case was reported out of Douglas County.

The particular variant has been spreading across the nation, mainly in the northeast part of the country.

It is unknown how the contagiousness and severity of the New York strain compare to COVID-19 or other variants.
