Three Teens Lead Police on a Chase in Kearney

KEARNEY, Neb. - Three teens were apprehended after leading police in Kearney on a pursuit Tuesday afternoon. According to a press release, the pursuit began after authorities received a suspicious activity/vehicle call from the public. A little after 3 p.m., officers encountered the vehicle in the area of 28th and 6th in an alley. When police tried to make contact, the vehicle fled. KPD officers pursued the vehicle to North Railroad Street where the driver lost control and struck a stop sign and street marker just west of the 30th Avenue overpass. The occupants took off but where taken into custody a short time later. The three people involved include a 16-year-old male who had been the driver and two female passengers, ages 14 and 17. They identified themselves as runaways from Lincoln. The vehicle sustained damage from the collision with the signs. All three were taken to CHI Health Good Samaritan to be checked for injuries. They will be turned over to Health and Human Services for further disposition. Officers were assisted by two Troopers from the Nebraska State Patrol as well as employees of a business in the area.
