Teen charged after standoff at Grand Island airport

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. — A central Nebraska teenager is in jail after an airport standoff.

Grand Island Police say 19-year-old Tyler Caudill of Phillips was arrested Tuesday at the Central Nebraska Regional Airport.

Authorities say he was also wanted in connection with a lockout at Kearney High School on Monday.

Police say they got a report Caudill had thrown items over the fence at the airport and got on a private jet.

Pilots then saw him asleep in the jet and found a rifle in the items thrown over the fence.

Police were called and attempted to get him to surrender.

After about 30 minutes, Caudill was arrested. Charges are still pending and an investigation is underway.

Caudill is charged with felony attempted theft and felony possession of a deadly weapon. A judge Wednesday set bond at $250,000 and a preliminary hearing for June 4. If convicted on both counts, Caudill could get up to 53 years in prison.
