Suspect flees scene after traffic stop, crashes vehicle

LINCOLN, Neb. – Authorities took two people into custody after a suspect fled the scene of a traffic stop and crashed off the side of the road. Deputies with the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office pulled over a 2008 black Honda Accord with two occupants near Rosa Parks Way and Highway 77 around 10 a.m. on Friday. Deputies proceeded to take the driver of the vehicle back to the cruiser, and during this time, the passenger got into the driver's seat and fled the scene. After a brief chase, the vehicle crashed off the side of the road near Highway 77 and West Van Dorn. That suspect then fled on foot, eventually being tracked down by authorities a quarter mile away. After a search of the vehicle, 99 pounds of marijuana was located, LSO said. The original driver of the vehicle was arrested on charges of possession with intent to deliver, while the suspect who fled the scene was taken to the hospital for evaluation. Once released, he will be charged and lodged with possession with intent to deliver, and felony flight to avoid arrest. LSO said they are still working to positively identify the two suspects.
