Sidney Fire Department responds to semi truck fire near Cabela’s

SIDNEY, NE — Firefighters in Sidney had to battle a semi truck fire near Cabela’s multiple times Wednesday afternoon. 

The first calls of the blaze came in around 1:30 p.m. Photos sent in from listeners show flames overtaking the cab of the semi. Fire officials say the driver was shopping inside the nearby Cabela’s when the fire started and was not injured.

The semi truck had extensive damage to the cab and under the hood. At about 2:30 p.m., fire crews began to pack up and prepared to leave the scene after putting out the flames and extinguishing hot spots. Then at about 3:00 p.m. crews were called back to the scene as the truck had reignited.

The cause of the blaze is unknown at this time. The truck is considered a total loss.
